From early childhood, Roerich was fond of painting, history, archeology. He was attracted by eastern culture. He graduated from the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. The artist was engaged in painting and made sketches of mosaics for churches in Russia. Acquaintance with Elena Ivanovna Shaposhnikova and gave rise to his love of the East. She introduced him to the great works of Indian philosophers, to the Upanishads. At the beginning of the 20th century, Nicholas Roerich went on a journey and made acquaintance with the philosophy of India.

The audience is most impressed by Roerich’s most picturesque canvas - “Brahmaputra”, which he wrote in 1946. Brahmaputra is the name of a river flowing in India. She takes her beginning from the great Nagov Lake - Manasarovar. Translated from Sanskrit means "son of Brahma" (Brahma is a deity in Hinduism). Roerich decided to depict this amazing place with which a large number of legends are associated. Here, on the way to Everest, there lived a lonely old man - clairvoyant Milarepa, who before the rising of the Sun listened to the voices of the Devas. Closer to Shigatse on the banks of the Brahmaputra, Ashrams of the Mahatmas of the Himalayas lived not so long ago.

Brahmaputra decided to depict the painters in the evening, which at this time of day is exactly similar to its name. We see the majestic calmness, the significance of the ancient deity. The river flows calmly, wide, among rocks and sands, flows around mountain rapids until it reaches its destination - the world's oceans.

After death, the artist left a great artistic legacy. His numerous works - drawings, paintings, sketches of various decorations, are stored to this day not only in museums, but also in private collections around the world.
